Charitable Giving

About Us

Charitable Giving

ASAM is a community of hope, led by medical professionals, that treats addiction and saves lives. ASAM envisions a future when addiction prevention, treatment, remission, and recovery are accessible to all, and profoundly improve the health of all people.

Giving

The ASAM Treat Addition Save Lives Fund provides ASAM with the flexibility and resources it needs to respond proactively and provide solutions to challenges related to the disease of addiction.

This unrestricted fund supports ASAM’s dedication to:

  • improve and increase access to the quality of addiction treatment,
  • educate medical professionals and the public,
  • support research and prevention, and
  • promote the appropriate role of physicians in the care of patients with addiction.

The Ruth Fox Endowment Fund

The ASAM Ruth Fox Memorial Endowment Fund builds a sustainable funding source to support the organization's ability to respond to major changes and pursue opportunities to grow and expand.

Other Ways to Give to ASAM

For all methods listed, contact Rebecca Yannopoulos ryannopoulos@asam.org for ASAM’s EIN, sample language, and assistance in documenting and completing your gift.

Donor Advised Funds

Setting up a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) allows you to transfer money, stocks, or crypto assets into a charitable investment — while gaining immediate tax deductions. Many financial institutions, including Fidelity, Vanguard, TIAA, and Charles Schwab, now offer DAFs. Once your DAF is set up, you can make a grant from your DAF to the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).

Bequests

By including a bequest to the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) in your will or living trust, you guarantee ongoing support for the advancement and implementation of addiction science and care. Add ASAM to your existing will or trust or write a will for free online and create a bequest with our partner, .

Have you already included a gift in your will or trust? We would love to thank you for your generosity.

Matching Gifts

Double your donation!  Many companies offer matching gift programs to encourage employees to contribute to charitable organizations. Most of these programs match contributions dollar for dollar, and some will even double or triple the amount of your gift. Please check with your employer to explore if this option is available to you.

IRA Charitable Rollover

Donors 70.5 and older are eligible to make a tax-free gift to the American Society of Addition Medicine (ASAM) directly from their IRA called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). Holders of traditional IRAs, SEP IRAs, SIMPLE IRAs, 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, and 457(b) plans are all subject to Required Minimum Distribution. If you must take a Required Minimum Distribution, QCDs are a good way to reduce your tax liability.

Gifts of Stock

Gifts of appreciated stock and securities are a cost-effective and tax-friendly way to fund ASAM’s mission. You may be eligible for a tax deduction based on their full fair-market-value and avoid paying the capital gains tax. Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer.

Beneficiary Designations

Designate part or all your IRA and other retirement or bank accounts, including life insurance policies to American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and make a meaningful gift toward helping further ASAM’s mission.
